THE DEATH SPELL
Bio
From the vibrant underground of Auckland, New Zealand, The Death Spell emerged in 2021 with a mission: to craft raw, transcendent rock that bridges eras and continents.
Founded by lead singer and guitarist Oz, the trio channels the thunderous weight of ‘70s hard rock and heavy metal, fused with the hypnotic textures of stoner and psychedelic rock, distilled into their signature proto-raw sound.
In October 2023, The Death Spell unveiled their debut single “Witch’s Coven,” accompanied by a video. Just two months later, on December 24, they dropped their full-length debut, led by the explosive opening anthem “Nail You Higher Than Before.” The album struck a chord across the global underground, climbing to #8 on the Doom Charts, a rare and powerful debut statement from an entirely independent release.
In 2024, The Death Spell entered a new era with a recharged rhythm section: Boot (formerly of New Zealand punk legends Sticky Filth) on drums, and Bruno (formerly of Ratso) on bass. Their raw energy and chemistry have injected new fire into the band’s already potent sound, solidifying a lineup now primed to command stages with undeniable firepower.
Cementing this momentum, The Death Spell released their first recording with the new lineup, Second Dawning: Live in Tāmaki Makaurau, recorded live in Tāmaki Makaurau on September 20th, 2025. The album stands as a raw, unfiltered document of the band’s rebirth and the electrifying force of their new era.
